Yes... We Javanese love sweet soy sauce. Try this versions of baked chicken and you will love the combinations flavors of the spices. "Sugeng Dahar..."

1 chicken (3lb) divided into 4 parts
1 TB tamarind
1 tsp salt
1 medium lime, juiced
Spice Paste:
8 shallots
4 garlic
4 candle nuts, fried
1 tsp salt
1 TB sugar
4 chilies
10 TB sweet soy sauce
250 ml water
Rub the chicken with all the first ingredients and leave it for at least 4 hours. Paste all the spices into a smooth mixture. Pour the Spice Paste into a wok. Add the marinated chicken
and stir until the chicken stiff. Pour the water and the sweet soy sauce, stir until combined. Cook the chicken until half done.
While the chicken is cooking, preheat the oven to 400°F, prepare the baking pan and cover with aluminum foil,
brush with little bit oil. Take the chicken pieces out from the
paste mixture and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. Put in the oven and bake until
the chicken no longer pink. Turn the chicken once in a while to get the same color on both sides if you want to.
Save some of the spice paste by cooking it thoroughly on low heat. Brush over the chicken before serving and drizzle
some more of sweet soy sauce on it.
